Sometimes baseball games can get so wrapped up in statistics and minute details that they forget all about fun. Backyard Baseball 2006 delivers the fun with pint-sized superstars and easy-to-learn gameplay.

In Backyard Baseball 2006, players can face off in an exhibition game, play a season, practice with minigames or connect to another Game Boy Advance for multiplayer fun.

Whether you play a single game or take part in an 18- or 32-game season, the ease of gameplay makes this game great for all ages. Before you pitch, you select the type of pitch you want to throw. Then, you move the aiming cursor where you want the pitch to end up and press the A Button. Same goes for batting. Select the type of swing you want to perform (such as power or contact), and when the ball approaches the plate, press A to swing the bat.

Each pitcher has a "juice box" that indicates how tired he or she is. On occasion, the pitcher is given a chance to throw special power-up pitches. Although these trick pitches are almost unhittable, they quickly deplete that juice box. Batters also get special power-ups to choose from.

Although the gamplay is easy to learn, the real stars are the MLB Pro Kids, such as Albert Pujols, Ivan Rodriguez and Eric Gagne and many mores. Other unlockables include ballparks and more backyard kids.

Although the minigames aren't very interesting (one for fielding, one for hitting home runs), the ballparks have plenty of character. From a junkyard to a swamp, you'll play in many fun locations. On top of all of that, the game keeps your team's season stats and gives you certificates for reaching statistical milestones.
