Hey, if a show about a spineless aquatic fry cook can become a huge hit, why
not a show about a boy saddled with two hapless fairy godparents? Hence
Nickelodeon's The Fairly OddParents!, which now makes its Game Boy
Advance debut with The Fairly OddParents!: Enter the Cleft.
Catching the manic energy of the Edward Everett Horton-narrated Fractured Fairy
Tales from The Bullwinkle Show -- and we can't think of higher praise
than that -- The Fairly OddParents! chronicles the misadventures of Timmy
and his often less-then-helpful fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda.
In The Fairly Oddparents!: Enter the Cleft, Timmy's favorite comic-book hero,
the Crimson Chin, has been captured by the despicable Bronze Knee Cap. The
player controls Timmy's superhero alter-ego, Cleft the Boy Chin Wonder, through
20 zany side-scrolling levels in places like Comic Book World, the Primitive
Age, the Present World and the Future World.
Conveniently stored in Cleft's chin is your typical assortment of superhero
power-ups, including a megaphone, baseball bat, skateboard, rope and gyro. Cleft
must summon all the courage in his boyish heart to defeat horrible rotten mean
bosses like Vicky the babysitter. Eeeeeek!
You'll encounter A.J., Chester, Cosmo's mother, Mr. and Mrs. Turner and other
fave characters from the TV show. Cosmo and Wanda pop in from time to time to,
quote unquote, "help" their li'l charge. Given the typical way C&W gum up the
works, we're surprised to learn that some of the items they supply Timmy are
actually critical to his mission of mercy.
