Based on the animated film from Fox, Ice Age is a chillin' side-scrolling
adventure full of perilous ice caves, boiling lava pits and three lovable
heroes.
The unlikely duo of Manny the Mammoth and Sid the Sloth, who are voiced in the
movie by Ray Romano and John Leguizamo, respectively, are on a quest to return a
lost child to his father. You will be called on to control both Manny and Sid in
10 worlds of fierce enemies and icy puzzles.
You don't have to be a paleontologist to enjoy this prehistoric quest. These
living fossils grace the Game Boy Advance with clear, colorful graphics. There
are two difficulty levels.
While controlling your prehistoric pachyderm pal, the adorable infant, Roshan,
rides shotgun. Manny's powerful trunk can bust through walls and he can use his
massive size to squash enemies. Roshan can leap from Manny's back to snatch
valuable items such as life-giving acorns.
In the Sid levels, you run as fast as a giant, two-toed sloth possibly can. The
screen will automatically scroll right and you must dodge enemies to stay alive.
These twitchy challenges require good reflexes and are a nice contrast to the
more thoughtful and slow puzzles found in the Manny levels.
Overall, Ice Age is a well put-together platformer. The early levels may seem
easy at first, but the difficulty ramps up nicely. It may seem like the game is
over too soon, but you can collect 40 acorns in each level to unlock a special
bonus.
Ice Age for Game Boy Advance is a decent side-scroller that should appeal to
fans of the movie. The graphics compare well with those found in other top-notch
Ubi Soft titles like Rayman Advance.
