Pac-Man flips out and the ghosts better watch it in this fast-paced Pak.
Pac-Man Pinball is the man in yellow's first video pinball game. Here, the big
chomper smacks ghost foes Blinky, Inky, Pinky and Clyde. Ms. Pac-Man even rolls
in to snack on a few pellets.
You play on four tables, but only two different layouts. Two of the tables show
Pac settings, one in a village, the other in a haunted house. The other two
tables use a classic pinball art style, but again have the village and
haunted-house themes. The two haunted house boards have identical layouts, as do
the two village boards; the only difference is the artwork.
You see half of a table at a time. When you shoot Pac-Man toward the top of the
board, the table scrolls up. When Pac-Man rolls back down toward the flippers,
the screen scrolls down.
Each area of a table has different goals. Some challenge you to spell "Pac-Man",
others will let you unlock a door that leads to a house and an observatory.
The haunted house boards give you a chance to exchange pellets you've chomped
for power-ups. You can buy fruit for points, grab a Power Pellet so you can
chomp ghosts, invite Ms. Pac-Man out for some multiball action, choose to have
an extra life and more. When the observatory is unlocked, Pac-Man plays a
minigame in which he he needs to avoid ghosts and eat pellets. Those pellets can
then be exchanged in the house.
It's no easy task to knock Pac-Man into the haunted house and other areas.
You'll need to make precise shots if you want to get Pac-Man into the small
openings of the table. In Pac-Man's world, you can't tilt out, so use the L and
R buttons to "shake" the table and get more action on the ball.
The classic tables seem to play a bit better than the Pac-World inspired tables,
thanks to bright-blue backgrounds that makes Pac-Man easy to see.
