Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc builds on the limbless one's solid track record of
fun action and good graphics.
All right, Rayman does have hands and feet; it's just that they have no
visible means of attachment to the rest of his candy-colored body. The things
game developers dream up!
Rayman Advance established this limbless hero in the hearts of Game Boy Advance
owners when it was released at the launch of Nintendo's handheld wonder. Now,
with Rayman 3, players can expect more 2D side-scrolling action with even more
power-ups and a host of smart new enemies.
Globox Guffaw
When the game begins, Rayman's clumsy pal, Globox, accidentally swallows the
Lord of the Dark Lums. After Globox disappears in a puff of smoke, Rayman sets
out to find his friend before the evil Hoodlums can.
The star of the game is quite recognizable, but there is a growing cast of
vibrant characters who aid or impede Rayman on his quest. Returning cast members
include Murfy, who gives guidance when you approach one of his magic stones;
Razorbeard and his fleet of evil pirate henchmen; and Ly, who grants new
abilities throughout the game.
Ray-Can-Do
Rayman can attack with both fists, swing from Purple Lums, and glide using his
helicopter hair. He can also smash the ground under his feet with the R Button
and climb between walls with the L Button. The result is a game that's more
combat-oriented than previous entries.
In some levels, Rayman can grab Sam the Snake for a wild ride. These 3D water
skiing challenges are especially fun. You must jump and dodge oncoming obstacles
while collecting items.
Many items and unusual characters are scattered throughout the worlds. Cages
contain imprisoned creatures that Rayman can free with a couple of smacks from
his fists.
Yellow Lums are the keys to unlocking new worlds. Betcha can't find all 1,000!
Red Lums restore Rayman's health, while rarer Silver Lums provide an extra life.
Green Lums are save checkpoints.
Great Graphics
The series' characteristically colorful graphics look crisper than ever. Rayman
and his enemies come to life with exaggerated movements and detailed animation.
Lifelike touches include butterflies fluttering in the Forgotten Forest.
As with previous entries in the series, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc has more
personality than a busload of charm-school graduates. If you enjoyed past Rayman
games, you'll love this new one. If you're new to the Rayman world, you're in
for a great surprise!
