Shrek and his fairy tale friends zoom onto the Game Boy Advance in this
fanciful racing adventure.
Based on the hit movie, Shrek: Swamp Kart Speedway guarantees fans a kart racer
with its own brand of twisted fairy tale humor. The once-upon-a-starting-line
action twists and turns through 16 tracks that range from the swamp Shrek calls
home to Lord Farquaad's Castle. Treacherous drop-offs, slippery sludge puddles
and other Dark Ages dangers put your driving skills through a trial by ordeal.
Eight characters, each with unique characteristics, are at your disposal at
game's beginning. Four more can be unlocked by playing through story mode.
Princess Fiona is one of the more well-balanced characters. Ironically it's
pretty easy to catch this Gingerbread Man, who has great handling but so-so top
speed.
It's a sad fact of life that in any land ruled by Lord Farquaad chivalry is not
merely dead, it's decomposed, so take full advantage of the plentiful power-ups
littering the tracks. Just remember that what goes around comes around, because
you can quickly end up on the receiving end of some sinister sorcery. One
especially nasty piece of necromancy turns your kart into a pumpkin and reverses
the controls for a short time.
No kart racing game would be complete without a decent multiplayer mode and
Shrek delivers for as many as four players. Multiplayer action requires GBAs and
Game Paks for every player and enough GBA Game Link cables to connect all
systems.
Shrek: Swamp Kart Speedway brings all the characters and locations from the
Shrek movie to the Game Boy Advance. The graphics and sound are a bit on the
medieval side, but the movie's legions of fans should be plenty happy to take
the green ogre and pals for a spin.
